Floor Projection
The floor becomes the game. Stepping stones to cross, targets to stomp, paths to follow — gross motor work with a reason to keep moving.
A path that appears underfoot asks for the next step more persuasively than a count does.
What it is
A projector turns the floor into an interactive space. Targets appear, move and respond when stepped on, so the child crosses, jumps, stamps and balances their way through whatever the game asks for.
Because the targets are placed deliberately, the therapist decides where the child has to put their feet — which means stride length, direction changes, single-leg loading and crossing midline can all be set up inside what the child experiences as play.
Why it holds attention
Gross motor practice on a mat asks a child to repeat a movement with nothing at the end of it. On the floor, the next target is already visible, and children keep going toward it well past the point they would normally stop.
What the therapist controls
Target size, spacing, speed and the pattern of appearance are all adjustable. Widen and slow it for a child building confidence; tighten it to demand precision and quicker reactions.
What it works on
Gross motor development
Stepping, jumping, stamping and changing direction with purpose.
Weight shift
Loading each leg in turn, including single-leg moments.
Balance in motion
Dynamic balance rather than held static positions.
Spatial planning
Judging where to put a foot before committing to the step.
In the room
-
01
Clear the floor area
The activity needs a clear, non-slip space the child can move across safely.
-
02
Set the pattern
Choose target spacing and placement to match the movement you want — wide steps, narrow path, crossing midline.
-
03
Play and progress
Increase speed or reduce target size as the child warms up and succeeds.
-
04
Capture the session
Steps, accuracy and time on task are recorded as they go.
Eight modules, one system
Most clinics start with the two that match their most common goals, and add more once the team is comfortable.
